How To Create Your Personal Sanctuary and Have a Stress-Free Home!

How To Create Your Personal Sanctuary

A healthy home environment helps you feel safe and comfortable and eliminates feelings like sadness, worry, and helplessness. A healthy home should be void of confusion and noise which can lead to issues like high blood pressure and after awhile, even cause things like stroke and heart disease. You can’t always control your environment at work but the task is definitely do-able at at home!

Your Ultimate Goal:

Your goal is to create a therapeutic and nurturing space. Your space should be filled with things that you love the most. By doing this, we promote spiritual growth and self-healing. This works best if you have a spare room or space that you can convert into you special sanctuary. If you don’t have that – don’t worry. Simply create spaces throughout your home that are ‘yours’.

You don’t need to spend a lot of money doing this. Second hand items are inexpensive ways to create ‘your space’. If you are crafty buy things and re-do them yourself. If you enjoy thrift shopping think of it as a stress-free adventure!

Get Rid of Clutter:

Everyone would be so much better off if they just took the time to get rid of the clutter in their homes, and in their lives. How relaxed can you get in a room full of clutter? It’s awful! Get rid of things you no longer use! Have a garage sale or donate stuff to charity. Someone else will be happy to have your unwanted items!

Find Your Colors:

Certain colors have different effects on our moods. If you are up to it, you might want to consider painting some rooms in your home. You can browse colors and find ones that make you feel happy or give you a positive reaction. For example; blue has a calming effect, where as red is typically invigorating.

Atmosphere:

There are so many ways to create a healing atmosphere in your home:

  • candles or a fireplace
  • aromatherapy (lavender is particularly calming)
  • water fountain or aquarium
  • live plants and flowers (some of which even cleanse the air)
  • natural lighting options
  • family photos

The possibilities are seriously endless! If you are someone who loves relaxing with a good book, maybe a reading corner is what you need! Or if you love to fix things up, you might just need a workshop where you can create. Find what you need to be happy at home.

Now that you know what you need to do to create your own little sanctuary, what are you waiting for? You don’t have to complete it overnight, the journey to your perfect space should be an adventure! There’s nothing wrong with having a sanctuary that is always a ‘work in progress’. Perfection takes time!
